Now that I am not so depressed I have been drawing like a fiend. And it's been 90% chibis and 10% Adventure Time. The chibi style is 95% art doll/pear shape/French artists. The Adventure Time inspired work is 90% AT. All of it is mine but I'm right in the middle of 'evolving' as an artist. Trying new things and working toward ever upping my 'cute quotient' until one day, maybe I will achieve Japan level cuteness.
Latest inspiration:
The Secret World of Arietty. A visual masterpiece that amazingly give Spirited Away a run for it's money. I am dying to write about tiny people now! God- everything in that film was gorgeous and amazing and beautiful. And of course based on a book already written so I have to come up with some twist on tiny people if I want to write about them...
Ouran High Host Club- I only have the first 4 manga so I'm finally watching the anime. It's been on my Netflix queue for years and it's turn has finally come. It's funny but for some reason the idea it gives me is a female host club (women as dress as hot guys catering to other women- and yes- these exist! For those few of you out there who aren't mangaphiles)
Teahouse- http://teahousecomic.com/comic/archive.p hp
webcomic about a brothel I JUST found out about today. It's not so much inspiring as it a lot like the brothels in Sepulcher the fictional city I invented years ago and do nothing with, which may or may not be better off as a shared world if only I could get other authors to write in that locale. Anyway, it's a pretty shallow/standard yaoi (sorry hard working artist). Most of the characters have about one character trait but then again who reads porn for the personality right? But I must say after skimming it, (it's short/new) I think my ideas are better. Not that that matters. Sad to say as an author I am a sweet romance kind of girl and I sure as shit AM NOT going to draw a comic. But darnit- the whores of Sepulcher kick so much ASS!!! Especially the one Sennecharib whore in the city (but then the Sennecharib kick ass in general even if they are the most boring race in that world) And he has more than one character trait. As a yaoi reviewer I have to say Teahouse has all the cliches of every other yaoi I've ever read (short of rape which is the only real twist) which is unfortunate because the art is really lovely. It's just standard. Which is fine. Standard has wide appeal because it's familiar and non-threatening.
Meanwhile I am not writing much aside from the two projects I bitched about last post. Writing and art tend to take turns in my life. As one wanes the other waxes, and so on. Perhaps with more self confidence I could do better as a writer or an artist, but lacking confidence in both areas takes it's toll on both.

The last two Ghibli's I haven't been as impressed with. The stories have been a LOT simplistic and watered down from the former intense ones.
I still feel the best are Spirited Away & Howl's Moving Castle.
